Fashion Friday – the Big Smoke & the Land

What a weekend of racing and fashion it will be.  The Big Smoke (Royal Randwick) and the Land (Wellington Race Club).

Tomorrow we are off to Royal Randwick with the feature races being:

The Star Doncaster Mile 1600m Group 1 Worth $3
Darley T J Smith Stakes 1200m Group 1 Worth $2.5
Australian Derby 2400m Group 1 Worth $2M

So girls get out your black & white as Derby Days are set in tradition  This of course means you can throw in another colour.  As written in years gone by, the original colour was grey.  It later became black and white due to originated from a marketing ploy – for whisky!!!!

On Sunday we are off to Wellington Race Club the home of the Wellington Boot.  The Boot has over $500k in prize money on offer.  This year the Wellington Boot (a 2yo  race) has increased to $150,00.

And City trainers are coming.

Here the best of country warmth is shared. The day is jam packed including:   great racing, fashions on the field, live music featuring ‘Hurricane fall’ and  cloud 9 party on wheels vintage bar – these are the major highlights for adults.

When it comes to what to wear, the day has previously been hot so plan to dress for the weather but give a thought that we have moved into autumn attire. What does that mean?

Think changing your outfit colour to an autumn tone, put away the sinamay and think feathers, felt, leather & crowns are still popular. NO OPEN TOE SHOES, NO MID DRIFTS, and as Thoroughbred Events Australia always say:  Hemlines down, Necklines Up.  A day at the races is a day you put on your best conservative, classic look.  Of course show your originality but keep in mind you are at the races and it should be respected.

But more than anything, a day at the races should be fun and shared with friends.  Thoroughbred Events Australia have been hosting fashions on the fields all over Country NSW before it was run by anyone other than a race club.  TEA have been passionate about racing and have been attending and promoting for over 35 years.  As a business, we have been active for over 10 years and started at a time when no one was out there doing what we were doing.  We have always led the way in promoting women in the racing arena, running fashions on the field and encouraging new faces to the racing industry.

A point to note, when in the country wedges are acceptable and a safe option for shoes.  But above all you must remember:  Shoes must stay on.

With a huge day planned in the City and Country, we should always applaud the race clubs and their Board members.  An enormous amount of planning (and time away from families) have gone into showcasing their race day to provide you with a complete day of entertainment.  We are so incredibly lucky that all we are asked to do is to enjoy and take in the whole atmosphere.

Good luck to all those entering fashions on the field and those that have runners (being trainers and owners) may it be a day to remember!!!!
