Winning Wednesday – Hong Kong International Races

For those racing enthusiasts the Longines Hong Kong International Races should be on your bucket list.

The meeting at Sha Tin is held on the second Sunday of December and there are four Group 1’s featuring top quality horses from around the world.

The crowd of 86,500 people cheered home the local runners to win the 4 feature races. This year was Hong Kong’s first ever clean-sweep of the International Races. The locals swayed to the song We Are the Champions after Glorious Forever won the Hong Kong Cup which gave local trainer Frankie Lor two Group 1 wins for the day. His other win was with Mr Stunning who won the Hong Kong Sprint. Mr Stunning has now won back to back Sprint races.

The highlight of the day was to witness Beauty Generation winning by 3 lengths in the Hong Kong Mile with Zac Purton on board. Beauty Generation was the Hong Kong Horse of the Year and to see him in the flesh was a treat.

As well as the racing on the day there was also the fashions which over there is called the Longines Prize of Elegance with the winner being presented with a Longines watch.

The day finishes off with a spectacular 5 minute fireworks display which always finishes with the big screen saying ‘See you next year’ and that you will.
