Get Ready for Nowra Cup/Girls Day Out

As we get close to Shoalhaven City Turf Club’s Nowra Cup / Girls Day Out, we thought we would talk to our Fashion Judge Sally Martin.

Sally has won numerous sashes and constantly hits fashion trends – so, if anyone knows what to wear and what are fashion trends, it certainly is Sally.

Sally, what is your favourite look for Autumn?

We have seen the shops filled with animal print – it is everywhere! It’s quite the trend at the moment and can be worn in so many ways – accessories, hats, shoes, jewellery, gloves, scarves, the list goes on.

This is my favourite look this Autumn.

How did you put your look together?

I decided I really wanted to wear animal print for the Fashion Chute in Sydney at Rosehill Gardens. I managed to find a dress through the Racewear and Millinery Facebook page (yay sustainable fashion) but it didn’t fit quite right. So my lovely friend Jade from Sovata fashion label cut it up and made it into a new dress with more animal print fabric that she found at a local op shop.

She had already made a felt hat that happened to match perfectly and with some shoes and earrings from Zara, it was just meant to be! I love it when an outfit comes together so easily.

My outfit must have impressed the judges as I made it into the top 10 for the Fashion Chute.

What other looks do you like that might give us more inspiration for this season?

I feel I am quite conservative with a twist. Go bold in colour, a texture and a little thicker in fabric and add a big hat!!!

Another suggestion is find a favourite piece and work around that.  Sometimes I am inspired by big skirts or a certain fabric or a headpiece I have fallen in love with.  I look for a complete overall classic style but with a little bit of one’s personality. Here are a few of my past looks as examples.

Hopefully this inspires but … most of all … be original and have fun.

Both Sharon and Sally look forward to welcoming all the competitors on Sunday 26 May.
