THOROUGHBRED CLUB THURSDAY – CORSETTE WINS
Our VIC Ambassador Sinead Hughes entertained a group of very excited Thoroughbred Girls. These girls would form part of the presentation to hand over a very encouraging trophy and ribbon to the Best off the Track Thoroughbred on behalf of The Thoroughbred Club.
Our chosen pony was Corsette owner and trained by Ed Matthies who has been a huge supporter of thoroughbreds. This is her story.
Corsette came via Scott Brodie from his Muswellbroook set up. We are privileged to say that it was during our sponsorship at Polo in the City (where Sharon Lenton encouraged Scott to attend) that Ed and Scott first met.
Corsette was purchased as a rising 3 yo unbroken and basically unhandled coming from the Patinack farm. It took Ed 2hrs to initially get her on the truck and Ed mentioned he was very tempted to leave her behind!
Corsette is by Monaco Consul out of Lingerie Girl – her markings being 117/2.
As far as we can find out, we don’t think she was ever race named.
Corsette was a very challenging horse to break in and train. She was such a nervous filly and boy, could she buck, always looking to kick out on any occasion.
In the last 2 years has really turned a corner and is now (thank god) a fantastic, relaxed and exceptional mare. Corsette is extremely soft and lateral with huge power as well.
Ed claims she is his best horse! This truly being a great story of a mare that has come through the system to be a great polo pony.
We thank Ed for taking the time to talk to us and letting us into a snippet of Corsette’s life story.
We are also proud to acknowledge Corsette as our chosen Best Performed Off the Track Thoroughbred Pony.
