2017 Winning Wednesday – Rob and Louise Ward

Welcome to our second edition of Winning Wednesday.

Today I would like to introduce you to Rob and Louise Ward. I have had the privilege of knowing this amazing couple for over 15 years.  They are a wonderful couple, loving parents and adoring grandparents.  These two are always smiling – so it was an absolute pleasure when I saw, once again, their beaming smile in Queensland last weekend that I had to know what they were up to.  It was Rob’s birthday and what an appropriate way to spend a birthday – at the races for the Queensland Derby.

Let’s get started on a brief capture of their involvement in racing.

How long have you been involved in ownership of racehorses?

We have been involved in racing now for over 16 years. Rob was Bob and Jack Ingham’s auditor and once he completed his service with them, we thought we should give it a go.  We actively got involved at a hobby level in both racing and breeding.

(And why wouldn’t’ you? Bob and Jack would have been great examples on why you should get involved!!!!)

Do you have a favourite horse and why?

We have enjoyed all our horses. Of course your first horse is always special – Rockin Roller was purchased in 2001 and we have him immortalised with a beautiful drawing by equine artist Maryanne Lillecrapp.

Do you have any special highlights?

We are clients of Laurel Oak Bloodstock whose motto is “We want to make your racing experience Easy and Enjoyable” and they certainly have always fulfilled this.  We have had so much fun with Louis & Jill Mihalyka.  Our highlights, so far, would have to be our Group 3 win at Flemington and a runner in last weekend’s Queensland Derby where we were also celebrating Rob’s birthday.  What a way to celebrate! To be honest, we have had many highlights including our trip to the Kentucky Derby and also to Royal Ascot.

We have been lucky with our racing but most of all, we have shared many laughs and have fulfilled dreams reached equally with all those optimistic people who get involved in racing.
